There’s never been a better time to buy the luxury ranch known as The Cedars. At the foot of the Sierra Nevada in Northern California, it is relatively isolated. It’s also been slashed in price from $55 million to $25 million.

Even at its original list price, the property was a good deal when you consider the man behind the ranch, gaming tycoon Robert “Bob” Luciano, poured over $57 million into its development. Luciano’s company, Bally Technologies Inc., is big in the casino business, producing slot machines and gaming management solutions.

Located in the Mohawk Valley about an hour from Lake Tahoe and an hour from Reno, the Clio, CA, property spans more than 93 acres filled with meadows, orchards, cedar groves, streams, and five ponds.

But it’s what’s sitting on top of the land that truly takes your breath away. The grand estate is ideal for an extended family gathering or corporate retreat. It’s a bit of the Wild West crossed with an English manor house on the scale of “Downton Abbey.”

“The Cedars Estate is a multi-building compound/retreat that was specifically created with large scale, luxurious, extended stay entertainment capabilities as a major objective,” wrote Luciano’s father, Robert A. Luciano Sr. “Depending on the singles/couple mix, the compound can comfortably accommodate up to 30 extended stay guests plus an additional one live-in, caretaking employee.”

There are three main residence buildings, and the “crown jewel” is the main lodge, which is crafted with arched timbers, and features a hammered-iron staircase, copper roof, river rock masonry, and windows custom-made in South America.

There are grand entertaining spaces, including a great room that could easily double as a ballroom. There’s also a massive bar/lounge, a dining room, and a commercial-grade kitchen and pastry kitchen.

The lodge’s bedrooms are guest suites, many with fireplaces, balconies, and kitchenettes. The home also includes a gym, spa, and game room.

There’s also the carriage house, a two-story structure with a luxurious studio above a two-car garage. It features artisanal touches, including a kitchen floor made of tile that depict fish and aquatic plants. There’s also a glass-covered table with an aquatic theme carved from one piece of wood.

Lastly, there’s the bunkhouse. It was built as lodging for guests and space to produce wine. It’s been used for extended family gatherings and weddings.

Among the bunkhouse’s highlights are a tequila bar, a Jack Daniels bar, and a kitchen area with a Murphy bed that can serve as an apartment.

The property comes with tennis courts, wine caves, stables, and caretaker quarters. An underground well and a stream are included as well.

The new owner can fly in to the jet-serviced Nervino Airport. (For buyers with their own plane, a private hangar is included.) The airport is 20 minutes away by car.

The 55% price reduction plus the benefit of truly being away from it all might be exactly what The Cedars needs to finally coax a buyer out of the woods.
