‘To-Die-for Views’: Contemporary Compound in Santa Fe Is Listed for $14.25M

New Mexico

Peter Ogilvie for Sotheby’s International Realty

A custom-built contemporary compound in Santa Fe, NM, with 12.5 acres and multiple buildings, has entered the market.

With an asking price of $14.25 million, it’s one of the most expensive homes in all New Mexico.

Meanwhile, it’s the priciest place in New Mexico’s capital city by a wide margin. Santa Fe’s runner-up checks in with a price tag of $8.95 million. Both homes sit well outside the city’s median list price of $457,000.

As for why this chic residence is the town’s topper?

“It’s a one-of-a-kind design,” says the listing agent, Ricky Allen with Sotheby’s International Realty-Santa Fe Brokerage.

He adds that the listing, with its artful elements and sleek design choices, is “for the architectural design-oriented person who wants something totally different.”

The property last changed hands in 2004 for an undisclosed price, although the land was on the market for $729,000.

The owner proceeded to build a new home that takes full advantage of the “to-die-for views,” of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, as Allen tells it.

“The seller is a designer himself, and it was inspired by him,” Allen adds. “And it’s very nontraditional Santa Fe. It’s very contemporary.”

Along with a 5,000-square-foot main house, the spread includes a detached two-car garage, as well as a huge separate office or studio with a deck and views. The workspace is above a three-car professional garage with a lift—perfect for showcasing a car collection.

In addition, two guesthouses come with the property. They are built in the traditional New Mexico style of double adobe block walls, which are extra-thick and offer natural cooling in the summer.

The main house incorporates modern materials, constructed from a sustainable substance called E-Crete. You enter the house through a dramatic steel-and-glass courtyard into the home, which features concrete floors, American clay walls, and walls of glass.

Inside the spacious layout are three bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and two half bathrooms, as well as a large screening and entertainment room. At the end of the evening, guests can retire to the  private lounge.

The spacious gourmet kitchen comes with book-matched walnut cabinetry, Italian glass countertops, and high-end appliances.

A welcoming living room features a fireplace and a wall of glass. The dining room looks out to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and features a custom-designed lighting installation suspended from the 25-foot ceilings.

You can continue the party outdoors. It is seamlessly connected to the living and dining rooms and features a stainless-steel outdoor kitchen, as well as a covered outdoor lounge, complete with views of the mountains. You can soak in the natural surroundings from the in-ground spa.

Although the compound offers plenty of privacy, it’s only 10 minutes from downtown Santa Fe.
