Thanks to the global pandemic, many of us spent way more time at home in 2020. And guess what—stars are just like us! (Some of them, anyway.)

However, A-listers also took advantage of the down time to browse for luxury real estate.

For some of the biggest stars, the need to shelter in place inspired a desire for larger, more opulent abodes with tricked-out amenities, parklike grounds, and resort-worthy extras.

But even among the hundreds of seriously sweet spreads, a few really stood out above the rest.

We did the hard work of sifting through all the celebrity real estate deals of the last 12 months, and picked our three favorite homes of the year.

So grab a fab cocktail and your oversized shades, and let’s take a look back at the top three celebrity homes of 2020.

1. LeBron James scores Beverly Hills compound

The facts: When not ruling over the hardwood for the Los Angeles Lakers, NBA superstar LeBron James knows his way around a real estate deal.

While rumors swirled that James was on the hunt for a home while the NBA was on hiatus, he zeroed in on a Beverly Hills compound befitting his legendary status. The deal closed in September for $36.75 million.

What sets it apart: With 2.5 acres, the sprawling estate lets the King live royally. Set on a promontory, the timeless estate from 1934 features 9,146 square feet, four bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a screening room, pool, and a poolhouse with two bathrooms. With its two guesthouses, the gated space offers privacy, security, as well as an abundance of land, a rarity in the exclusive ZIP code of 90210.

Must-see feature: Spectacular views may have clinched the deal on this property. The jaw-dropping vistas run from downtown L.A. to the ocean and the Santa Monica Mountains. The picturesque views can be enjoyed through the glass wall in the living room, from the courtyard, or whenever you pull into the motor court.

2. Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin buy in Beverly Park

The facts: As it turns out, even global superstars can’t resist a discount.

The pop star Justin Bieber and his wife, the model Hailey Baldwin, dropped $25.8 million on a sweet Beverly Park spread this summer. After buying a “starter” Beverly Hills home in 2019 for $8.5 million, the couple reportedly jumped at the chance to upgrade to a larger and much pricier estate in the even more exclusive enclave. They turned around and quickly put their smaller Beverly Hills home on the market for $9 million.

As for their new digs, the luxe compound had been on the market since 2018, with a price tag of $42 million. But with no buyers at that price, the place was offered a steep price cut, along with a few key updates that refreshed the interior.

The new look and the price reduction caught the couple’s eye, and they wound up scoring a wonderful deal.

What sets it apart: The 11,000 square feet of space is all about luxurious glam. Completely renovated for modern living, its amenities include a large living room, library, dining room, eat-in kitchen, and adjacent family room. Walls of glass open the space out to the patios and lawn. The spread also features a home theater, wine cellar, and gym.

Outside, the 2.5-acre grounds are the perfect spot for large gatherings or pool parties, with a grassy lawn, koi pond, infinity pool, tennis court, and a lounging and dining space with a barbecue and pizza oven.

Must-see feature: The massive master suite is to die for, boasting a sitting area, dual closets and bathrooms, and heated floors. Glass doors open out to a romantic terrace that overlooks the grounds.

3. Star couple J.Lo and A-Rod score a mansion on Star Island!

The facts: The power couple Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are intimately familiar with mega-real estate deals. They have been busy buying and selling properties on both coasts for years. But a reported purchase in Miami Beach grabbed our attention. Rumors swirled that the superstars had picked up a mansion on … Star Island!

While the island isn’t reserved exclusively for stars, the gated, secure, and tiny community makes it an attractive spot for A-listers.

In fact, with fewer than 40 homes on the man-made speck of land, there are only a few pricey picks to choose from. Currently, only three listings are on the market. Celeb owners on the star-studded isle have included Sean Combs, Gloria Estefan, and Shaquille O’Neal.

Lopez and Rodriguez chose a magnificent modern mansion, which had been offered at the sky-high sum of $40 million. The deal was sealed at a discounted price of $32.5 million.

What sets it apart: The roomy waterfront home spans almost 15,000 square feet, and offers 10 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, and two half-bathrooms. Luxe amenities include an elevator, wine room, library, wet bar, and multiple patios and terraces.

Must-see feature: The eye-popping pool makes a huge splash. The mansion’s great room opens directly out onto the pool area, making the outdoor space a main focus of the home. Outdoor amenities include the dramatic pool with its waterfall and hot tub, cabana, and covered bar. Its private, 100-foot ipe wood deck has Atlantic Ocean access and direct sunset views of Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline.
